Another challenging perspective from Graham Le Sar…
“As a result of coaching with Graham I have … managed to be more structural and have been able to prioritize giving me more time and control. It has been wonderful to link up and summarize weeks, seeing where improvements could be made. Being encouraged to reassess my own person and habits has been a great revelation. Using Graham’s tools to help me find out what needed and could be changed as well as their source was extremely helpful. I enjoyed the objective yet valuable input and suggestions and the fact that I was fortunate to have Graham listen to me as well as guide me. All in all I feel at peace with who and where I am and excited about where I am going and the opportunities ahead. Sometimes in order to move on, one needs a little help to de-clutter the mind and realign the business and personal aspects of one’s life. Graham has successfully done this for me and I am truly grateful!” – Natasha Stadler – Midwife

Interesting article on News 24 today…
Apparently Universum, a global leader in Employer Branding conducted some research to determine the most attractive employers for young South Africans in 2018. I was startled and then concerned by their findings.
It seems that despite chronic unemployment levels in South Africa, simply being aware of an employer and their job opportunities is not enough to drive the desire to work for that employer.
Universum interviewed over 45 000 university students and about 22 000 young professionals and found that Government and parastatals are among the top employers of choice, far outranking finance houses, IT giants and legal institutions.
I guess that given the number of large privately and publically owned companies that have either closed their doors, or effected devastating retrenchment programs over the past couple of years, who can blame savvy graduates for putting their short term sustainable earnings potential over their longer term career considerations.
The sting in the tail for me is this: Most government and parastatal organizations DO NOT generate income in their own right. They don’t grow things, make things, trade things or service things. They rely largely on the Fiscus – an important sounding word meaning fleecing the general population by way of taxes… on everything!
The growing job base in government and parastatals will only add to the tax burden of the relatively small percentage of us tax payers already struggling to scrape together a living in our stumbling economy.
Whether you are an employee or an employer, we are all affected.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could get a salary increase, or the average business could simply raise the price of their goods and services, every time our spending exceeded our income the way the government can simply increase our taxes or casually increase VAT to 15% to cover their squandering spending habits.
So what do we do? Two choices…
We roll into a ball and cry foul while whining and whingeing to the shrinking number of our friends and family who are still prepared to listen.
Or we go back to the drawing board and become creative in new and different ways to manoeuvre over, under, around or through the obstacles that face us in our lives and businesses on a daily basis.
How about you?
What solution will you choose…?
